Overview

Job Description

The Drill & Blast Engineer will design, implement, and optimize drilling and blasting operations for open‑pit activities. Responsibilities include planning and executing efficient and safe blast designs, monitoring drilling activities, compiling drill and blast costs, and collaborating with departments to meet production targets, safety standards, and environmental regulations.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize blast designs that maximize rock fragmentation, minimize environmental impact, and ensure safety of all personnel.
  • Select appropriate drill pattern sizes, explosive types, and initiation sequences.
  • Ensure drill patterns are executed as planned and drilling activities align with blast design specifications.
  • Understand procurement, storage, and handling of explosives in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
  • Monitor environmental impact of blasting operations, including vibration, noise, and fly rock, and implement mitigation measures.
  • Collect and analyze data from drilling and blasting activities to monitor performance, optimize processes, and report on key metrics.
  • Provide monthly cost and usage reports to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with geologists, mine planners, and other engineers to integrate drilling and blasting plans with overall mine operations and support cross‑functional teams to achieve production targets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve drilling and blasting processes, reduce costs, and enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Assist with projects as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field, or 5+ years of blasting experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong communication skills to build and maintain a network with planning peers, managers, projects, and operations.
  • Ability to adapt to changing mine conditions.
  • Preferred use of mine design and scheduling packages.
Working Conditions & Environment
  • Site‑based position at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine located above 8,000 feet high altitude, requiring fieldwork in varying weather conditions.
  • Fieldwork includes walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs, and wearing required personal protective equipment such as steel‑toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
Benefits & Salary

Salary range: $95,000 – $105,000. Benefits include 401(k), medical/dental/vision insurance, employee share purchase plan, PTO, and STI.
