Job summary

Frey Consulting Group in Orlando, FL, is seeking a Drainage Engineer to expand our Transportation Design team. You will apply water resources and hydraulic design expertise to develop drainage systems for roadways and infrastructure projects across Florida, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, compliant solutions.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, detail-oriented, and proficient with drainage modeling tools, FDOT standards, and report writing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Master’s preferred.
• Florida PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• 5–8 years of relevant drainage, stormwater, or water resources design experience.
• Proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ICPR, HEC-RAS, ASAD, and StormCAD.
• Knowledge of FDOT drainage design standards, procedures, and permitting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drainage design calculations, reports, and construction plans per FDOT/local/federal rules.
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using ICPR, HEC-RAS, HY-8, ASAD, and other tools.
• Design and analyze stormwater conveyance, retention/detention ponds, and culverts.
• Support permit applications and documentation for FDOT, FDEP, SWFWMD, SFWMD, etc.
• Collaborate with roadway, utility, and environmental teams for design integration.
• Contribute to project reports, specs, cost estimates, and presentations.
• Perform quality reviews and mentor/seek guidance from senior staff.
• Participate in field visits, data collection, and construction support as needed.
