Job summary

Engtal is seeking a Senior Plant Mechanical Estimator to support a growing District Energy and Central Utility Plant practice. The role centers on delivering budgets and pricing for high‑value campus utilities and large mechanical systems in the Greater Boston area.

The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of relevant experience, strong knowledge of central plants and district energy, and the ability to work with vendors to assemble competitive pricing.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of mechanical/energy estimating, preconstruction or engineering experience.
• Strong experience with central utility plants, district energy, campus utilities or large infrastructure.
• Knowledge of chilled water, steam, heating hot water, boilers, chillers, pumps and large-bore piping.
• Experience collaborating with vendors/subcontractors on pricing.
• Ability to work from limited or incomplete design information.
• PE or engineering degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual and ROM budgets for central plant and district energy projects.
• Review early design information, narratives, P&IDs, drawings, and equipment schedules.
• Determine major equipment, piping, valves, pumps, controls and supporting infrastructure.
• Collaborate with manufacturers, vendors and subcontractors to develop pricing.
• Identify scope gaps, risk, constructability issues and phasing challenges.
• Support value engineering and system alternative analysis.
• Develop and validate project budgets.
• Explain and defend budget assumptions to clients and internal leadership.
• Support projects from early concept through preconstruction and GMP development.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams throughout project development.
