Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Albuquerque, NM invites applications for a Staff Distribution Engineer to join project teams designing and delivering electrical distribution projects from concept to construction.

Responsibilities include preparing distribution voltage packages, sketches, cost estimates, and BOMs, performing power flow and pole loading calculations, and ensuring compliance with NESC and utility standards. Field inspections and client communications are also key parts of the role.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree and 3 years relevant experience required.
• FE exam completion and 3 years relevant experience required.
• Master's in Engineering with 2 years relevant experience required.
• Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow.
• Proficiency with distribution design software and GIS; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects.
• Create design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading.
• Apply NESC and utility standards, guides, specs, and procedures.
• Research and compile project-related data for managers.
• Conduct field inspections of overhead and underground facilities.
• Prepare and share project communication on vegetation management, ROW, and outages.
• Develop client presentations and reports to illustrate results and status.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Adhere to all policies and standards.
