Job summary

Illinois Mutual is seeking a Senior Underwriter for Individual Disability Income Insurance to assess and underwrite complex cases within guidelines, with authority for higher-risk submissions. This hybrid, full-time role reports to the Underwriting Manager and requires 4+ years of underwriting experience, a bachelor’s degree, and industry designations preferred.

You will collaborate with the field force and Medical Department to determine risk acceptability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
• Minimum 4 years of progressive underwriting experience.
• Strong communication, analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team under pressure.
• Industry education designation preferred (FLMI, FALU, CLU).

Responsibilities

• Underwrite individual disability income applications per guidelines and approve larger/complex risks.
• Interact with field force to gather information for decisions.
• Submit high-risk applications for supervisor review.
• Provide risk selection and build professional customer relationships.
• Attend meetings and complete underwriting projects as directed.
• Consult with medical department on questionable cases.
