The Opportunity:

You’ll underwrite complex DI cases end‑to‑end, partnering closely with the field while maintaining the independence required to make quality, sound decisions. The work is fast‑paced, varied, and rooted in strong underwriting fundamentals—balanced with real autonomy and trust in your expertise.
The Team:

The team is composed of underwriters supporting our MassMutual Financial Advisors (MMFA) distribution channel. We support MassMutual career agents, individual brokers and the consumers they serve. The Impact
Serve as a product and underwriting subject matter expert through field training, industry events, conferences, and ongoing partner education.
Deliver competitive underwriting decisions that prioritize business placement while maintaining profitability and morbidity expectations.
Provide exceptional service and consultation to agents, brokers, field office staff, and business partners on underwriting and risk related matters.
Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to support customer understanding and business outcomes.
Apply strong underwriting expertise to assess risks, gather relevant information, and make sound decisions, even in complex or ambiguous situations.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders through effective communication, collaboration, and emotional intelligence.
Drive continuous improvement by influencing process enhancements, championing change, and supporting operational excellence.
Mentor and coach less experienced underwriters while providing technical guidance on complex underwriting and customer service issues.
The Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
5+ years of underwriting individual disability insurance.
$15K+ approval authority in individual disability insurance underwriting.
The Ideal Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
7+ years of underwriting individual disability insurance
Experience working in a fast‑paced environment
Approval limits of $20K+ IDI, $50K+ BOE, $750K+ Buy Sell without a second signature
Exams completed toward industry designations i.e., DIA/DIF, AALU/FALU, FMLI, etc.
