Job summary

Trustmark is seeking a senior leader to head production underwriting for small group and level-funded business in Lake Forest, IL. You will guide underwriting strategy, develop scalable processes, and partner with sales to drive growth while ensuring risk discipline and profitability.

You will manage underwriting operations, mentor a growing team, and collaborate with actuarial, product, and technology stakeholders to align pricing, risk management, and business strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required with 8+ years underwriting experience in health insurance, strong focus on small group/level-funded products.
• 2+ years leadership experience including direct management of underwriting teams.
• Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams and optimize processes and workflows.
• Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing underwriting processes and performance metrics.
• Strong analytical skills with data reporting to drive decisions.

Responsibilities

• Leads production underwriting to ensure disciplined risk selection, pricing consistency, and profitability targets across small group and level-funded business.
• Shapes underwriting strategy with scalable processes, tools, and workflows to improve efficiency and risk assessment.
• Partners with sales leadership to align underwriting execution with growth objectives and coach field engagement.
• Oversees underwriting operations through management of operations leadership to ensure efficient case flow and high-quality submissions.
• Builds and develops a high-performing underwriting team with clear expectations and accountability.
• Collaborates with actuarial, product, and operations teams to align pricing, risk management, and business strategy.
