Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Senior Director for Optical Communications Terminals in Washington to lead the architecture, development, qualification, production, and deployment of TeraWave terminals. You will drive end-to-end technical and execution performance across multiple engineering domains.

You will report to the VP of Payloads and Terminals and partner with spacecraft, ground systems, and manufacturing teams, shaping a culture of rigor and accountability while expanding production capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or related technical field.
• 12+ years of engineering experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience developing sophisticated electro-optical, optical communications, aerospace, semiconductor, or similarly complex products.
• Experience taking products from architecture through development, qualification, production, and deployment.
• Strong record of recruiting, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
• Experience with suppliers, manufacturing, qualification, and production environments.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and product definition for TeraWave optical communications terminals.
• Drive architecture decisions across engineering disciplines and set system-level objectives.
• Define interfaces between optical terminal, spacecraft, ground infrastructure, and network.
• Lead resolution of complex technical issues and cross-disciplinary tradeoffs.
• Maintain the technical roadmap for future terminal generations.
