OVERVIEW:

The Senior Director of eCommerce at Nugget is a pivotal leadership role driving our digital growth strategy in our currently 100% direct-to-consumer business. This position is responsible for evolving and optimizing our e-commerce ecosystem—from site performance and UX to acquisition and retention—while unlocking new digital revenue opportunities. As the architect of our digital roadmap, this leader will own forecasting and performance planning, guide cross-functional strategy, manage key agency and tech partnerships, and scale a high-performing team to deliver on ambitious growth goals. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this role is ideal for a visionary operator with a deep understanding of e-commerce, a bias for action, and a passion for innovation in digital retail.

What is Nugget? We are an industry-leading, fun-loving, direct-to-consumer Play company (est. 2014) that brings homes to life with bold play and big imaginations. We design, develop, manufacture, sell, and ship our part-toy, part-furniture products (The Nugget - The Original Play Couch - and Chunk - The World’s First Play Ottoman) with a team of ~100 Nuggeteers in Butner, North Carolina (just outside of Durham) and Atlanta, GA. And we’re just getting started — in both 2020 and 2021, Inc. Magazine named us the fastest-growing manufacturing company in the United States, and we have new stuff up our sleeves. We’re proud to continue the industrial legacy of North Carolina, and to make fun furniture for future astronauts, artists, architects, athletes, and – especially – active community members.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
  • You will own and establish the E-Commerce strategy and roadmap, based on broader company vision and business goals – with the roadmap including, among other things, site capabilities and evolution, digital expansion opportunities (such as other retail channels), internal and external resources needed, e-comm team structure, timeline and KPI’s
  • You’ll own forecasting with a focus on reliable, data-driven planning—tracking key metrics like CAC, LTV, AOV, and channel profitability to guide digital growth strategies.
  • You will work on cross-functional strategic planning with VP’s, providing a unique perspective based on the internal and external digital landscape

Customer Experience & Website Optimization

  • You will have accountability for and oversee all aspects of our site, including site UX/UI, navigation & merchandising, mobile responsiveness, checkout flow, SEO and content, with the goal of minimizing consumer friction and maximizing KPI’s
  • You will partner with our Digital Agency to drive conversion rate optimization (CRO) through A/B testing, heat mapping, and data-informed hypotheses
  • You will lead and evolve the site merchandising strategy for homepage, category pages (PLPs), product detail pages (PDPs), and curated collections, as needed
  • You will evaluate the feasibility and benefits of implementing personalization strategies, determining the optimal way to structure CRM data and using the data consumer personas as the basis of your recommendations
  • You will partner with our Digital Agency to ensure paid media strategy is optimized across Google, Meta, TikTok, and affiliate channels
  • You will oversee email marketing and work with a CRM partner to grow brand appreciation and drive conversion, driving overall strategy and overseeing execution, from every day emails to triggers to drips
  • You will stay informed of the campaign calendars, product launches, and promotions to ensure synergy across customer acquisition and website experience

Technology & Operations

  • You will own and optimize the e-commerce tech stack: Shopify Plus, ESP, reviews, product feeds, etc.
  • You will partner with an E-Commerce manager to ensure a seamless integration between E-commerce, Customer Experience and Supply Chain to best serve the consumer.
  • You will evaluate and onboard third-party tools and partners to enhance performance and user experience.

Analytics & Reporting

  • You will establish KPIs and dashboards to track site performance, campaign ROI, and customer behaviors
  • You will use data to understand and optimize key metrics: bounce rate, CLTV, repurchase rate, product performance, attribution, and more
  • You will build, lead, and mentor the E-Commerce team, including several direct reports, providing ongoing support via performance management, regular Check-ins and 1:1’s, semiannual Reviews, and ongoing coaching and feedback focused on growth and development
  • You will foster a culture of testing & learning and experimentation, not just among the e-commerce team, but the broader Marketing team.
  • You will determine necessary adjustments to the team, including changes to the team or agencies, to achieve growth targets.
  • You will be the SME on trends in E-Commerce, looking for ways to turn those insights into recommendations where applicable.
  • You will be an active leader across Marketing/Creative Services, providing functional perspective while balancing the needs of the organization and brand.
  • You will actively contribute as a member of the Department Leadership Team (DLT), helping translate company vision and priorities into actionable functional strategies that support cross-functional collaboration and brand consistency.
  • In partnership with leadership, you will establish OKRs and KPIs to drive performance across the E-Commerce function, ensuring clear alignment with departmental and company-wide goals.
  • You will uphold confidentiality and integrity in decision-making, communication, and data handling, particularly in high-impact or strategic matters.
  • You will model Nugget’s leadership values through positive representation on DLT and Management Team (MT), and inspire your team and peers through inclusive, forward-thinking leadership.
ABOUT YOU:
  • You have 8-10 years of experience in digitally native, direct-to-consumer marketing , including 3+ years managing an e-commerce team
  • You have deep expertise in Shopify Plus, GA4, conversion optimization, digital marketing funnels, and social selling (ex. TikTok Shop)
  • You have experience leading the expansion into other .com, like Amazon, Walmart or Target, and are familiar with strategies used to launch successfully into new retailers
  • You have experience managing a full e-commerce lifecycle, including content, merchandising, UX, dev partners, and fulfillment
  • You are highly analytical, able to synthesize complex insights into clear, actionable strategies
  • You have strong leadership skills and experience managing cross-functional and technical teams
  • You are skilled at applying knowledge of our business and the marketplace to advance the company’s goals through our eCommerce experience, thinking strategically about how to increase sales and keeping up with trends or policies that affect how we sell our products online
  • You are skilled at providing direction, delegating, and removing obstacles for your team – providing appropriate guidance and assigning tasks based on people’s capabilities
  • You can anticipate future trends, implications and possibilities and translate them into strategies that show a clear connection between vision and action
  • You are skilled at thinking creatively about how to find and use available resources to solve problems effectively and efficiently
  • You approach work with a “no job is too small” attitude, and have a curious mind - always willing to learn and grow your imagination
  • You can travel to North Carolina and Georgia periodically as determined by business needs, with advance notice provided. This role will require travel up to approximately 10 days annually.
BENEFITS:
  • Competitive Pay + Annual Company Bonus
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision covered at 100% for employees
  • PTO + Wellness, Holidays, Summer and Winter Break
  • 401k Employer Match
  • Free Nugget and Free Chunk + Team Discount
*Our compensation philosophy:

Here at Nugget we don't negotiate compensation. This comes from research that shows negotiations often result in arbitrary differences in pay – not based on differences in ability, but based on who is better at negotiating. For that reason, we like to offer the amount upfront that we believe is fair for the job, rather than offer a lower amount that builds in the expectation for negotiating. To add a bit more context, our process is centered in industry data, which factors in our stage/size of company, job classification, experience and skill, to make sure that we have fair and transparent numbers for our regional market.

Equal opportunity:

Nugget is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and will consider all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital or family status, disability, gender identity or expression, veteran status, actual or presumed belonging to an ethnic group, or any other legally protected status. If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation, please let us know.
