Job summary

JPMorganChase, within the Commercial and Investment Bank Lending Technology team in New York, seeks a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead leaders and senior engineers in modernizing commercial lending workflows and platforms.

You will partner with bankers, product and operations to translate business needs into roadmaps, set standards for reliability, security, and cost discipline, and drive delivery velocity with data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience
• 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage complex items
• Proven ability to modernize workflow-heavy enterprise systems
• Strong fundamentals in system design, distributed systems, reliability, security
• Ability to partner with non-technical stakeholders and drive alignment
• Experience with agentic AI-enabled engineering and SDLC/TLM automation

Responsibilities

• Set engineering standards across architecture, reliability, security, and delivery for modernization
• Translate business needs into roadmaps, scope, and measurable outcomes
• Improve availability and speed-to-delivery through automation and observability
• Mentor senior engineers and engineering leaders
• Lead multi-department strategy for AI-enabled engineering and governance
• Drive cross-domain reuse and measurable capacity unlocks
• Make build/buy/reuse decisions based on value, risk, and TCO
• Define metrics and use insights to improve product decisions and controls
• Own budget planning, forecasting, and expense management
• Build and retain high-performing teams through hiring and development
