Job summary

Teradata Corporation seeks a Senior Director, Intellectual Property & Product Counsel, to lead IP strategy and supervise a small IP team and Product Counsel function. You will partner with Product Engineering, GTM, Ethics & Compliance, and other stakeholders across the enterprise to protect innovation and enable responsible product development and lifecycle management.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required.
• USPTO registration strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 12+ years of relevant legal experience, including IP and product counseling in tech; in-house leadership preferred.
• Technical fluency in software, data analytics, AI, cloud, or related tech areas.
• Demonstrated experience leading global IP strategy, managing patent/ trademark portfolios, licensing, and product collaboration.
• Familiarity with AI, privacy, trade/export, ESG, product claims, and regulatory frameworks for enterprise tech.
• Ability to translate complex legal/technical issues into business-friendly advice for senior leaders, product managers, engineers, and GTM teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead Teradata’s IP strategy and manage global patent/trademark portfolios.
• Oversee invention harvesting, filing, prosecution, and portfolio analytics.
• Advise product engineering, GTM, and other teams on IP protection and licensing.
• Support IP aspects of strategic transactions, partnerships, and disputes.
• Manage IP risk across NPE monitoring, competitive intelligence, and enforcement matters.
• Develop AI-related IP strategies and responsible use of IP in AI products.
• Oversee governance, intake, and processes for IP and product law matters.
• Collaborate with executives to align IP with product planning and launches.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration on product and innovation risk.
