Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking an Associate Director of External Communications for Litigation to join the Communications team. The role will lead proactive media relations and reputation-building efforts, shaping and executing external programs that position Cooley and its litigators at the forefront of the innovation economy.

Working with firm leadership and other teams, you will develop strategies to support business priorities, manage awards programs, and act as a spokesperson for media inquiries,

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years' direct experience in communications or public relations, with 4+ years in management.
• Bachelor's degree preferably in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business or related field.
• Experience leading people and teams, including hiring, development, and performance management.
• Strong executive presence and ability to influence key decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of communications professionals and agencies for external programs.
• Develop communications strategies that support business priorities and highlight firm capabilities.
• Oversee awards and recognitions program and key submissions.
• Write and edit press releases, pitches, talking points, and statements.
• Advise firm leaders on media strategy, crisis management and interview preparation.
• Serve as spokesperson and primary media contact; coordinate crisis communications as needed.
