Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking an Associate Director of External Communications for Litigation to join the Communications team. You will shape and execute strategic external communications to elevate Cooley's reputation and highlight the department's capabilities and client work across the business and legal landscape.

Working with leadership, you will lead media relations, develop strategies, manage awards submissions, and serve as a spokesperson.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of direct communications experience, with 4+ years in management, preferably at a senior level.
• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business or related field.
• Experience leading strategy, influencing decisions and guiding team direction.
• Strong media relations and crisis/issues management background.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of communications professionals and agencies.
• Develop media strategies with department leadership to support business priorities.
• Oversee awards and recognitions programs for the department.
• Write and edit press releases, pitches, talking points and statements.
• Provide crisis communications counsel and media training.
• Position firm litigation lawyers as authoritative voices via earned media and content.
• Advise leaders on media strategy and reputation management.
• Serve as spokesperson and primary media contact for inquiries.
