Job summary

Cooley LLP in Washington, DC is seeking an Associate Director of External Communications for Litigation to shape and execute strategic external programs, lead media relations and thought leadership to elevate the firm's litigation practice.

You will mentor a team, collaborate with partners and practice leadership, oversee awards programs, draft press materials, and guide crisis communications and messaging for high-profile matters.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years' direct experience in communications/public relations with 4+ years in management.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Experience with crisis and issues management communications.
• Understanding of digital marketing, social media strategies and content creation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage in-house and agency communications professionals and media relations.
• Develop communications strategies to support firm priorities and market positioning.
• Oversee awards and recognitions programs and key submissions.
• Write and edit press releases, pitches, talking points and statements.
• Develop reporting, policies and resources for external communications.
• Identify compelling stories and position litigations lawyers as authoritative voices.
• Lead external campaigns and serve as media spokesperson for inquiries.
• Advise firm leaders on media strategy and reputation management.
• Provide crisis communications counsel and media training.
• Develop messaging and responses for interviews and inquiries.
