Job summary

ARTO is seeking a Business Development Director/Executive Director for the Small Molecule CDMO space. The role focuses on expanding revenue with US biotech and biopharma clients, leveraging deep CMC insight and a hunter mindset to secure strategic collaborations.

Candidates should have 5–10 years in small molecule API CDMO/CRO business development, established US relationships, and a PhD in a relevant field. The position offers opportunities in the Boston or San Francisco Bay Area.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of business development experience within the small molecule API CDMO/CRO industry.
• Strong understanding of the CMC journey, from discovery and IND through clinical development to commercial manufacturing
• Established relationships with US biotech and biopharma companies, particularly CMC decision-makers
• Proven track record of winning new customers and projects, with a proactive, hunter-style approach to business development
• Ability to identify emerging opportunities, understand customer pipelines, anticipate outsourcing needs, and engage with customers early in the supplier selection process
• Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to turn individual project wins into long-term strategic partnerships
• A relevant scientific degree is required; a PhD in Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or a related discipline is preferred

I'm partnering on a confidential search for an experienced Business Development professional to join a growing organisation in the small molecule CDMO sector.

We're looking for commercially driven professionals with a strong network across the US biotech and biopharma ecosystem, a solid understanding of CMC, and a proven track record of winning new business.

• 5–10 years of business development experience within the small molecule API CDMO/CRO industry
• Strong understanding of the CMC journey, from discovery and IND through clinical development to commercial manufacturing
