Capital One seeks a Sr. Director, Applied Researcher to lead a world-class AI Foundations team. You will shape the research agenda, build production-grade AI foundation models, and partner with product, data science, and engineering to deploy impactful AI-powered experiences for customers.

You will translate complex AI work into clear business goals, mentor researchers, and drive strategic direction for scalable AI platforms and infrastructure.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with extensive applied research experience in AI/ML.
• 5+ years of people leadership experience.
• Experience building large deep learning models and production-grade systems.
• Proven ability to drive research into scalable business impact.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products for customers.
• Lead the research roadmap and align scientific work with business goals.
• Build and apply AI foundation models across stages from design to deployment.
• Translate complex research into tangible business outcomes for stakeholders.
• Represent and mentor the research team, fostering talent development.
