Job summary

Capital One seeks a Sr. Director, Applied Researcher to lead AI foundation model initiatives and steer a team of applied scientists. You will collaborate with engineering, product and academia to push state-of-the-art AI into customer experiences, while maintaining production-grade systems and scalable infrastructure.

The role demands leadership, deep ML expertise, and a track record in practical AI deployment at scale across language, vision or graph domains.

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields plus 6 years of experience in Applied Research; or MS plus 8 years of Applied Research.
• At least 5 years of people leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that change how customers interact with their money.
• Leverage PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning to analyze large data and build AI foundations.
• Build AI foundation models from design through training, evaluation, validation and deployment.
• Drive applied research to translate AI advances into customer experiences.
• Translate complex work into tangible business goals.
• Set and align the strategic research vision with business priorities.
