Kelly Government Solutions is hiring for a senior digital / FPGA design engineer on a government contract with our customer in Torrance, CA or Salt Lake City, UT. This is a full-time, direct hire opportunity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of new electronic product requirements through consulting with customer and system engineers.
- Perform trade studies and analyses to validate conceptual designs.
- Perform circuit analysis and board-level design, including schematic capture and specifying printed circuit board design requirements (placement constraints, trace parameters, routing layer constraints).
- Use VHDL to develop FPGAs that interface with electronics, sensors, electro-hydraulic actuators, electromechanical components, and communication links for actuation systems or avionics equipment.
- Conduct prototype testing, integration testing, and design verification/validation testing.
- Document design, analysis, and verification results with accurate and concise reports.
- Perform FPGA verification in accordance with project plans and standards.
- Provide formal technical presentations to internal and external customers to support program review and business development.
- Specify and support the design of lab test setups.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Ten (10) or more years of design and development engineering experience in military/aerospace or related industries.
- Digital design expertise including modern microprocessors/DSPs, high-speed digital logic, FPGA, memory, analog-to-digital, digital-to-analog converters, and communication links.
- Demonstrated detailed knowledge of VHDL coding and optimization for performance.
- Extensive experience designing test benches and simulations using digital simulation tools (e.g., Modelsim, Active-HDL) for FPGA verification.
- Analysis expertise including power dissipation, power consumption, timing, signal integrity, component derating, and Acceptance Test / Built-In Test coverage.
- Detailed knowledge of board design and layout, including design tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with Microsemi Accelerator or IGLOO2 FPGAs.
- Experience with FPGA or ASIC designs qualified to RTCA DO-254 level A.
- Experience with digital data buses including Ethernet, IEEE-1394, MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 429, RS422, and RS232.
- Experience with Cadence / Allegro design tools.
- Experience with high-speed serial (PCIe) and asynchronous data buses.
- Experience leading and mentoring less experienced design engineers.
- Ability to access US export-controlled documentation.
