Principal System Design Engineer, FACTS & HVDC

Job Description:

Apex Systems has exciting remote Principal and Senior System Design Engineer (FACTS & HVDC) opportunities with our client, a designer and manufacturer of electrical and electronic products, systems, and services. Ideal candidates will have 7+ years of experience in FACTS or HVDC system engineering, and advanced knowledge of power electronics, electrical transmission systems, and substation equipment.

Location: Remote - must work EST hours

Length: Perm/Direct Hire

Salary:

• Principle System Design Engineer: $140k-$150k/yr
• Senior System Design Engineer: $120k-$130k/yr

Responsibilities include:

• Leading design studies for FACTS and HVDC systems, including harmonic filter design, loss calculation, audible noise analysis, and control performance analysis.
• Developing advanced equipment design and rating calculations, including creating one-line diagrams.
• Providing technical consultation on protection and control systems, operation methods, and leading site commissioning testing.
• Developing equipment specifications for power electronic converters, cooling systems, transformers, and main circuit equipment.
• Leading local design, commissioning efforts, and coordinating system design through testing procedures.
• Guiding field engineers and service personnel during start-up, troubleshooting, and repairs.
• Collaborating with global teams on product development and reporting on new industry developments.
• Supporting market studies, sales plans, and technical presentations for customers.
• Overseeing factory and field test plans, reviewing test results, and maintaining design standards.
• Maintaining industry contacts, influencing standards, and leading cost reduction initiatives.
• Training lower-level engineers and drafting technical papers for publication and presentation.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Power Electronics Engineering with 7-10 years of experience in FACTS or HVDC system engineering.
• Advanced knowledge of power electronics, electrical transmission, substation equipment, protection, control, and harmonic filtering.
• Strong communication, analytical, and technical skills.
• Proficiency with technical drawings, MATLAB, Simulink, and power system software.
• Ability to work safely in high-voltage environments, travel domestically and internationally up to 50%, and lift 25 pounds occasionally.
