Job summary

Xylem is seeking a Senior Field Service Technician in the Norfolk area to troubleshoot, maintain, service, and repair pumping and support equipment on-site and at customer locations. Ideal candidates have hands-on diesel engine diagnostics experience and can work independently in the field.

Preferred backgrounds include Navy technical rates, HVAC techs, and automotive or diesel mechanics transitioning to pump systems. Pay ranges from $29 to $33 per hour with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of diesel experience and/or training, or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Ability to obtain a DOT Medical card.
• Ability to diagnose basic mechanical problems.
• Understanding of equipment repair and maintenance methods, materials, tools, and techniques.
• Basic understanding of pump station electrical controls and monitoring devices preferred.
• General DC electric and circuit testing skills.
• Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues—preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and servicing on Godwin fleet equipment between rentals.
• Troubleshoot diesel engine, electrical systems, and pump problems.
• Rebuild diesel engines and pump ends.
• Assist customers and Xylem personnel in setting up pumping systems at job sites.
• Perform initial inspection of equipment for damages and report findings.
• Test repaired equipment for proper operation and quality.
• Perform preventative maintenance on company vehicles and shop equipment.
• Conduct diagnostic checks using computer technology.
• Participate in on-call schedule to assist customers after hours.
