Job summary

Ochsner Health System is seeking an experienced ultrasound technologist to perform advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures in collaboration with staff radiologists. The role includes mentoring junior staff and students, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Required CAHEA-approved training in diagnostic sonography and RDMS certification or eligibility within one year. BLS certification is also required. Flexible scheduling is needed to accommodate 24/7 operations.

Qualifications

• Completion of a CAHEA approved formal training program in diagnostic medical sonography.
• RDMS certification or registry eligible within 1 year of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy of liver, gallbladder, aorta, spleen, kidneys, bile ducts, pancreas.

Responsibilities

• Verifies physician order and procedure accuracy.
• Operates imaging equipment independently per protocol.
• Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
• Reviews images for diagnostic quality before transmission.
• Performs quality control procedures and regulatory compliance.
• Assists in departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance).
• Adapts communication and approach to patient population.
