Job summary

Ochsner Health System is seeking an experienced ultrasound technologist to perform advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures in collaboration with staff radiologists. The role includes mentoring junior staff and students and requires RDMS or registry eligibility within 1 year of hire.

Required education includes CAHEA-approved diagnostic sonography training. This position offers a PRN schedule at Ochsner Medical Complex-The Grove with opportunities to support flexible shifts and on-call coverage.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Knowledge of anatomy of abdominal organs and ability to perform abdominal ultrasound.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call).

Responsibilities

• Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
• Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
• Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
• Independently operates ultrasound equipment and assists radiologists in guided procedures.
• Reviews patient images for diagnostic quality before transmission.
• Completes timely quality control procedures per regulatory standards.
• Assists in departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance).
• Adapts communication to patient population respecting privacy and consent.
• Performs other related duties as required.
