Job summary

SmithGroup, a leading integrated design firm, seeks a Senior Designer for its Phoenix office. You will collaborate with the Design Principal and project teams to lead architectural design across all phases, developing concepts for Higher Education and Science & Technology markets, and coordinating with engineers and planners.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Architecture, 10+ years of experience, and a strong portfolio.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture required.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience as an architectural designer leading medium to large projects.
• LEED AP preferred and architectural registration preferred.
• Strong design portfolio across higher education and S&T/lab markets.
• Experience leading design teams and projects; proficient in Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD and rendering tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design for all project phases: conceptual, schematic, design development and construction documents.
• Develop concepts for pursuits and commissioned projects in Higher Education and Science & Technology markets.
• Collaborate with designers, planners, project architects and engineers.
• Produce architectural drawings, renderings, and design assignments.
• Lead design presentations and participate in project interviews.
• Mentor junior staff and provide performance coaching.

The Phoenixoffice of SmithGroupis looking for aSenior Designerto join our team.

Working with us, you will:

• Work with the Design Principal and project teams to lead architectural design for all project phases including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
• Develop design concepts for highly competitive pursuits and commissioned projects in Higher Education and Science & Technology (laboratory) markets.
• Collaborate and coordinate with other designers, planners, project architects and engineers.
• Produce architectural drawings, renderings and design assignments.
• Prepare and lead design presentations and participate in project interviews.
• Provide oversight, mentoring and monitoring of the work performed by junior staff.
• Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching.
• Participate in employment interviews and serve as design expert and leader.

An ideal candidate has:

• A bachelors degree or higher in Architecture.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience as an architectural designer leading and working with medium to large-sized projects.
• LEED AP preferred. Architectural Registration preferred.
• A strong and diverse design portfolio across Higher Education and Science & Technology (laboratory) markets.
• Experience leading design teams and project groups required.
• Proficiency with and experience using current design software including Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, and other modeling and rendering software programs such as Rhino, Lumion and Enscape.
• Exemplary leadership skills, strong written and verbal communication, and organizational skills to help facilitate the development of trusted relationships with clients and staff.
• A portfolio of conceptual and built work to share.
