Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced preconstruction leader to oversee design-build and design-assist projects. You will manage design schedules, ensure quality, and control contract finances to deliver projects on time and within budget.

The role requires 6+ years in engineering or construction management, a Bachelor’s degree in the field, and strong communication, organizational, and analytical writing skills. PE licensure is preferred and Autodesk/Revit experience is valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Science or equivalent.
• 6+ years of progressive engineering or construction management experience.
• PE licensure preferred.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent analytical and technical writing skills.
• Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Advanced computer proficiency, including MS Office and familiarity with Autodesk/Revit.
• Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment while adhering to project deadlines.
• Outstanding project management skills.
• Ability to efficiently review and critique construction documents.
• Understanding of MEP calculations and design, building codes and standards, and MEP system costs.
• Ability to develop design tasks and distribute amongst the design team.

Responsibilities

• Manage larger design-build and design-assist projects and ensure delivery within time frames.
• Develop and maintain client relationships; coordinate with cross-functional teams.
• Communicate goals and schedules with business development, engineering, estimating, and PM; identify risks.
• Manage all financial aspects of design contracts to maintain profitability and cash flow.
• Coordinate engineering resources to develop conceptual designs for estimating; support BD during pursuits.
• Develop standards, methods, and procedures for the engineering department; train staff.
• Develop and maintain document control; ensure compliance with requirements.
• Manage design QA/QC processes and coordination.
• Plan on-site field surveys to collect engineering data.
• Assist in early procurement leveling efforts as required.
