Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Senior Design Project Manager to lead design teams and coordinate with Owners, Engineers and Architects. This role manages budgets, schedules, risk, and client relationships across large design-build projects.

The position emphasizes financial oversight of design contracts, QA/QC processes, and on-site surveys, with a focus on developing standards and mentoring engineers and PMs. Tempe, AZ based with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Science or equivalent technical training and related experience.
• 9+ years of progressive engineering or construction management experience.
• PE licensure preferred.
• Proficient project management skills, including ability to conceptually plan construction projects from beginning to end.
• Excellent analytical and technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead larger, more complex design-build and design-assist projects; serve as Program Lead for multi-project programs.
• Develop and establish strong client relationships; coordinate with cross-functional teams.
• Communicate and manage project goals and schedules; identify and manage risk in all phases.
• Manage all financial aspects of design contracts (costs, billings and collections) to maintain profitability and positive cash flow.
• Lead the development of standards, methods, processes and procedures for the engineering department; supervise and mentor staff.
• Develop and maintain document control; ensure compliance with requirements and standards.
• Identify design, process and equipment options meeting client requirements and manage QA/QC.
• Lead on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design and engineering data; manage early procurement of subs and equipment.
• Develop RFPs to define scopes of work and schedules.
