Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking a Design Manager to lead external design teams throughout all design phases on national projects. You will ensure design intent, constructability, cost control, and alignment with owner expectations from preconstruction through execution.

You will coordinate with architects, engineers, and vendors, drive design schedules, and work with estimating to keep budgets aligned with design decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Estimating, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
• Minimum of 7 years of related construction industry experience (general contracting, owners' representative, design-build firm, architecture firm, engineering firm, etc.).
• Experience supporting industrial/cold-storage, mission critical, or other complex project portfolios is preferred.
• Able to review and guide design; coordinate design efforts to keep project outcomes aligned with owner expectations
• High-level knowledge of construction and design industries.
• Strong interpersonal skills with heavy client-facing responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Champions, The Layton Way, by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
• Directs outside consultants through all phases of the design process, serving as an active project leader
• Serves as the primary point of contact with the architect team, ensuring alignment between design intent and constructability
• Develops and maintains a design schedule interfacing with permitting, procurement, and all construction phases
• Works with estimating to ensure budgets are organized and assumptions defined within each design phase
• Translates the owner's vision into a constructible design solution aligned with scope, budget, and schedule
• Establishes relationships with owners, designers, vendors, government, and trades
• Leads and mentors the Design Phase Team and supports senior government client relationships
• Travel as needed nationally and adapt to collaborative feedback
