Job summary

Justrite Safety Group is seeking a Sr Design Engineer to drive mechanical design of sheet metal cabinet products from concept through production. You will create 3D CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and specs while leading design-for-manufacture improvements and coordinating with Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, and Regulatory teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 6+ years of product design experience in manufactured goods.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred or equivalent) and 2D drawing creation.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and documentation practices for production release.
• Experience collaborating with manufacturing teams on prototypes, pilot builds, and production support.
• 5+ years designing sheet metal assemblies and welded fabrications (beneficial).
• Experience with industrial safety, chemical storage, or regulated products (beneficial).
• Exposure to ERP/PLM systems and formal engineering change workflows (beneficial).
• Experience with DFMEA/PFMEA, control plans, and validation/testing (beneficial).
• Lean / continuous improvement (Kaizen, standard work, waste reduction) (beneficial).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop fabricated sheet metal cabinet products and assemblies from concept through production release.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and specifications; ensure accuracy and configuration control.
• Lead design-for-manufacture (DFM) improvements across sheet metal fabrication, welding, finishing, and assembly processes.
• Manage engineering change activities (ECR/ECO) and implement product improvements and cost reductions.
• Support compliance and certification requirements for safety cabinets; coordinate tests and documentation as needed.
• Conduct engineering analysis: tolerance stack-ups, fit/function, structural concerns, latch/door performance, ventilation.
• Work with Manufacturing Engineering to develop fixtures, routings, and standard work for production.
• Qualify components with suppliers; support should-cost, VA/VE, and alternate sourcing.
• Investigate field and internal issues using RCA / 5-Why; implement corrective actions with Quality.
• Provide technical support to Sales/Customer Service on product applications and custom configurations.
