Job summary

Xcel Energy seeks a Staff Engineer to lead DER interconnection, power systems analyses, and grid modernization on our distribution system. The role emphasizes BESS, microgrids, and DER deployment, with coordination across engineering teams.

You will collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to deliver projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-efficient integration of advanced grid technologies with SCADA/controls and regulatory alignment.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required (Electrical preferred).
• 2+ years engineering experience in related field.
• EIT/FE strongly preferred; PE license may be required depending on business need.

Responsibilities

• Lead DER interconnection studies and power system analyses.
• Support distribution planning and grid modernization initiatives.
• Lead technical implementation of BESS, microgrid, and DER projects from development through operation.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and cross-functional teams to deliver projects.
• Provide regulatory and stakeholder support for grid modernization efforts.
• Mentor interns, drafters, technicians, and less experienced engineers.
