Job summary

1898 & Co., a Burns & McDonnell division, seeks a Grid Systems - Senior Solution Architect to modernize utility grid operations for electric clients in Denver and beyond. You will join the Enterprise System & Integration team, delivering solutions across SCADA, EMS, OMS, DMS, ADMS, and DERMS.

The role emphasizes leadership, project execution, collaboration, and guiding strategic investments aligned with the client’s long-term vision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, computer science, information technology, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of experience providing enterprise or operations architecture strategies, integration solutions, and services leveraging various applications and technical platforms.
• Preferred: 5 years in Electric Utility Industry or equivalent.
• Excellent enterprise architecture and integration skills, including data architecture, cloud architecture, middleware, communications, and other architectural methods and practices.
• Experience with electric utility clients in implementing and integrating operational systems such as OMS, DMS, ADMS, AMI, Distribution Automation, and DER is preferred.
• Strong ability to influence or lead project execution.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with leading-edge applications, operations technology, and solutions utilizing various industry standard tools.
• Experience with a variety of project execution methodologies, including Waterfall and Agile.
• Experience developing executive-level technology assessments and roadmaps for clients in utilities industry.

Responsibilities

• Apply industry experience and leading practices to architect, design, develop and implement SCADA, EMS, OMS, DMS, ADMS, and DERMS solutions to support complex business requirements.
• Utilize in-depth knowledge of SCADA, EMS, OMS, DMS, ADMS, and DERMS to support commissioning, testing and deployment.
• Provide field support, troubleshooting, and project coordination to enhance and maintain SCADA, EMS, OMS, DMS, ADMS, and DERMS, including commissioning new SCADA systems and testing for advanced distribution applications like FLISR, VVO, and DER Dispatch.
• Lead or assist with program estimating, planning, and budgeting efforts and be accountable for program/project delivery execution.
• Support Analysis, Design, Build, Test, Triaging defects, Configuration, and Deployment activities; support Enterprise Program Management using Waterfall and Agile methods.
• Ensure successful project completion by budget, scope, quality, and attainment of business objectives; supervise overall project status and milestones.
• Ensure overall project quality of deliverables.
• Act as an application and solution architect on architecture teams.
• Assist with business process design activities to drive complete application requirements: functional, quality, integration, and security.
• Create high-level integration designs for mapping data between applications and identify cross-application interactions.
• Validate that requirements meet business process needs and are within scope, and that integration designs use appropriate components.
• Lead high-level project communications and status reporting to executive stakeholders.
• Provide a central point of contact for project interdependencies.
• Develop and implement stages of the system with input on project execution processes and QA/QC.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and company standards.
