Job summary

Samsung Austin Semiconductor in Taylor, Texas seeks a highly analytical Defect Control Engineer to guard wafer quality and lead containment of defect excursions across the fab. You will collaborate with Metrology, Unit Process groups (Photo, Etch), and Yield Engineering to root-cause issues, drive corrective actions, and help maintain world-class quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years semiconductor or quality management experience.
• Experience with structured problem solving and defect root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with quality control systems and methods (Six Sigma, SPC, QMS, ISO 9000).

Responsibilities

• Excursion escalation: identify and classify defect excursions using metrology tools.
• Root cause analysis: investigate unknown defect sources and isolate causing tool/process steps.
• Cross-functional leadership: chair War Room meetings with Process, Integration and Equipment engineers.
• Develop and validate SOP enhancements for shift technicians to ensure rapid containment.
• Document defect signatures and create a knowledge base for faster issue identification.
• Implement preventative actions with Unit Process owners to reduce yield variation.
• Collaborate on out-of-control assessments to ensure proper SPC and flags.
