Job summary

Samsung Austin Semiconductor in Taylor, Texas is seeking a highly analytical Defect Control Engineer to safeguard wafer quality. You will lead rapid identification, containment, and elimination of defect excursions, working with Metrology, Photo, Etch, and Yield teams to stop defects from escaping the fab.

The ideal candidate has a BS in engineering, at least 3 years in semiconductor or quality roles, experience with structured problem solving and quality systems, and the ability to drive

Qualifications

• BS in engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years in semiconductor or quality management.
• Experience with structured problem solving and root-cause analysis.
• Experience with quality systems (Six Sigma, SPC, QMS, ISO 9000).

Responsibilities

• Lead rapid identification and classification of defect excursions using metrology tools to determine morphology and distribution.
• Spearhead root-cause investigations to identify tool, process step, or material causing excursions.
• Chair and facilitate cross-functional War Room meetings to drive containment and inspection strategies.
• Develop and validate SOP enhancements for Shift Technicians to ensure rapid containment and correct decisions.
• Document defect signatures and failure modes to build a knowledge base for faster issue identification.
• Partner with Unit Process owners to implement corrective actions and reduce yield variation.
• Collaborate on Out of Control assessments to ensure proper SPC limits and flag concerns.
