Job summary

Guidehouse is seeking a Senior Database Administrator in Bethesda, MD to manage enterprise SQL Server and Azure-based database environments, ensuring security, backups, recovery, and compliance for federal requirements across on‑prem and cloud systems.

The role collaborates with developers, cloud engineers, and DevSecOps to support modernization, performance tuning, data migration, and ongoing optimization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; 4 additional years of experience can substitute for a degree.
• 6–10 years of DBA experience in enterprise environments.
• Strong proficiency in SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.
• Knowledge of SQL language including triggers, procedures, functions, and packages.
• Experience with database mirroring or other failover methods.
• Ability to plan, configure, maintain, and manage database systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage database administration activities within a NIH EI portfolio.
• Administer and maintain multiple database platforms (Azure SQL, SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
• Plan, engineer, install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot database systems.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive configuration and administration documentation.
• Lead service account password rotation and maintain expiration schedules.
• Maintain and monitor database backups; conduct restores when required.
• Provide guidance to team members and work in on-call rotations if needed.
