Job summary

State of Arizona – Arizona Department of Education (AZED) seeks a Senior Database Administrator to manage SQL Server databases, Azure VMs, backups, DR, performance tuning, and data integration with Power BI.

You will design procedures, implement Always On, handle ETL with SSIS, develop automation with PowerShell, and collaborate with BI teams. Hybrid role in Phoenix with on-site as needed; 4-month contract-to-hire.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of database administration experience.
Strong experience with SQL Server administration, Azure, PowerShell, Power BI, and DevOps.
Ability to design, implement, and optimize database solutions and security.

Responsibilities

Manage and maintain SQL Server databases including installations, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
Handle Azure database VMs, backups, DR, replication, and high availability.
Configure Always On, perform performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
Develop stored procedures, functions, and complex T-SQL queries.
Develop PowerShell scripts for automation and support Power BI datasets and refresh cycles.
Design ETL processes and maintain SSIS packages; support data-driven BI solutions.
Collaborate with application/BI teams and mentor junior staff.
