Job summary

The DMV DESTINY platform requires an experienced IBM DB2 Database Administrator to manage, configure, and optimize the DB2 databases on mainframe environments. The role focuses on high availability, data integrity, and performance tuning for mission-critical systems in a government context.

Qualifications

• 15+ years hands-on experience with IBM DB2 (LUW or z/OS)
• Expertise in database design, data modeling, schema management, and SQL optimization
• Knowledge of high-availability technologies (HADR, replication, failover, clustering)
• Experience supporting complex, transactional, high-volume systems (government or DMV systems ideal)
• Familiarity with ETL processes, Data Mining, Data Storage, Data warehousing
• Knowledge of IBM batch jobs, and integration with enterprise applications
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and performance tuning skills

Responsibilities

• Support the DESTINY application team by optimizing queries, procedures, packages, and triggers
• Collaborate with developers to integrate enhancements, fixes, and new functionalities
• Ensure releases and data model changes are synchronized with database environments
• Maintain data integrity through robust validation, referential integrity, and error handling
• Enforce database security standards and audit requirements per DC government policies
• Assist with privacy and data protection rules for DMV-related data
• Use DB2 monitoring tools to identify performance bottlenecks
• Analyze SQL performance and execution plans to optimize queries
• Tune memory, indexes, and storage for improved throughput
• Support ongoing fixes and modernization of the DESTINY system
• Coordinate with OCTO infrastructure on server performance and connectivity
• Implement schema changes, table restructuring, and partitioning as needed
• Provide knowledge transfer to district agencies and stakeholders
• May coordinate activities of application developers
• Identify best practices and standards for product usage
• Deliver design and support for statewide system integrations
