Qualifications

• 15+ years of hands-on experience with IBM DB2 (LUW or z/OS).
• Expertise in database design, data modeling, schema management, and SQL optimization.
• Knowledge of high-availability technologies (HADR, replication, failover, clustering).
• Experience supporting complex, transactional, high-volume systems (government or DMV preferred).
• Familiarity with ETL processes, data mining, data warehousing.
• Knowledge of IBM batch jobs and integration with enterprise applications.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and performance-tuning skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the DESTINY application team by optimizing database queries, stored procedures, packages, and triggers
• Work closely with developers to integrate enhancements, fixes, and new functionalities
• Ensure application releases and data-model changes are synchronized with database environments
• Maintain data integrity through robust validation, referential integrity, and error handling
• Enforce database security standards, user access controls, and audit requirements consistent with DC government policies
• Support compliance with privacy and data-protection rules applicable to DMV-related personal information
• Use DB2 monitoring tools to identify performance bottlenecks
• Analyze SQL performance, query execution plans, and recommend optimizations
• Tune databases, memory pools, indexes, and storage structures for improved throughput
• Support ongoing fixes, enhancements, and modernization efforts related to the DESTINY system
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams on server performance, storage, and network connectivity affecting DB2
• Implement schema modifications, table restructuring, indexing strategies, and partitioning as required
• Provide technical knowledge and support to agencies, personnel, and stakeholders
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Coordinate activities of application developers if needed
• Identify best practices and standards for product use
• Deliver support and design for industry-specific applications requiring integration with statewide systems
• Interact with executive-level business users or technical experts
• Function as a niche technical SME (subject-matter expert)
