Crunchyroll is seeking a seasoned Database Engineer to maintain and enhance the reliability of our data infrastructure. You will drive 100% automation, monitor performance, and collaborate with data and software teams to optimize data services in a scalable, cloud-based environment.

The role emphasizes leadership, deep database knowledge, and mentorship within the Data Engineering team in San Francisco. Applicants should have 8+ years in data platforms and strong AWS experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 8+ years in database operations or data platforms.
• Deep AWS RDS/Aurora and NoSQL experience.
• Strong AWS cloud experience with data services.
• Proficient with monitoring tools: Datadog, CloudWatch, DevOps Guru, DB Performance Insights.
• Programming in Python or Java.
• Solid understanding of indexes, query plans, and performance metrics.
• CI/CD and DatabaseOps experience.
• Data governance and lifecycle management knowledge.
• Strong problem-solving and ability to mentor juniors.

Responsibilities

• Act as SME for database engine best practices and data placement strategy.
• Drive SQL optimization to reduce bottlenecks and latency.
• Design and scale schemas using AWS-native services and NoSQL engines.
• Perform deep-dive forensics on database internals and IO metrics.
• Mentor engineers and establish indexing and schema standards.
• Collaborate with DB SREs to translate configurations into IaC and automation.
