Job summary

BILL is seeking a Staff Data Warehouse Engineer to lead the data operations backbone for Finance, Product, and GTM. You will own end-to-end pipelines and warehouse architecture, partnering with analytics, data science, and product teams to deliver reliable, scalable data products.

Builds will span ingestion to curated marts, with a focus on trust, performance, and governance. This role emphasizes mentorship and setting engineering standards across the team.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of data engineering or related roles, with end-to-end warehouse ownership.
• Expert-level SQL across dialects and strong Python.
• Deep knowledge of ETL/ELT design, ingestion, and orchestration (dbt, Airflow).
• Hands-on with lakehouse/warehouse platforms (Snowflake, Trino/Starburst).
• Experience in financial services and/or SaaS environments.
• Ability operate with minimal DevOps support and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery of pipelines and warehouse architecture, from design through production, for new builds, migrations, and re-platforming efforts.
• Harden the data warehouse, including schema design, performance tuning, stability, and cost-aware optimization.
• Embed data quality and governance into pipelines by default — testing, documentation, lineage.
• Translate ambiguous business requirements into clear technical designs; manage scope with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Define and codify simple, stable, repeatable engineering standards and patterns.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on guidance.
