Job summary

The Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard is seeking a Data Management Specialist to support the Center for Human Brain Variation with high-volume single-cell data across multiple management systems. You will collaborate with project teams, manage data quality, and coordinate large dataset submissions to NeMO and NDA.

You will present quality metrics to scientists, work with engineers to optimize workflows, and help ensure timely deliverables while adhering to NIH data sharing policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, computer science or a related field.
• 1-2+ years in a high-data-volume scientific environment; experience with reports and data workflows.
• Experience with databases and data management systems.
• Proficiency in scripting (Python or R).
• Linux familiarity; Bash preferred.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Google Cloud or AWS).
• Experience with Nextflow a plus; ability to learn new tools.

Responsibilities

• Advance large single-cell and spatial transcriptomic datasets through analysis workflows.
• Plan and execute data quality assessments for high-volume data.
• Present data quality metrics to scientific teams and at lab meetings.
• Communicate complex metrics to stakeholders with varied backgrounds.
• Coordinate submission of large datasets to data repositories (NeMO, NDA).
• Ensure single-cell libraries are tracked and quality-checked in NIMP.
• Collaborate with consortium members and sites on data releases.
• Work with software engineers to optimize analysis workflows for high data volume.
• Produce reports summarizing data usage and storage needs.
• Support the managing director with progress reports on data deliverables.
