Job summary

Technosylva is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to design, build, and operationalize ML models predicting weather-driven outages in electric grids. You will bridge atmospheric science, power systems, and machine learning to support utilities before and during storms, winds, and wildfires.

You will work with meteorologists, risk modelers, and engineers to deliver real-time forecasting capabilities and robust production systems.

Qualifications

• PhD in Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Civil Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, or related field.
• Master with substantial weather-driven outage modeling experience also considered.
• 5+ years applying statistical modeling and ML to grid reliability, storm outages, or related energy problems.
• Experience with utilities or grid operators on weather-related forecasting is valued.

Responsibilities

• Design and validate ML models to predict transmission outages under extreme weather.
• Build spatio-temporal models linking weather forecasts to outage risk.
• Develop models for outage and wildfire ignition interrelationships.
• Integrate weather, asset, outage data into reproducible pipelines.
• Operationalize models for real-time forecasting workflows.
• Communicate model accuracy and uncertainty to internal teams and customers.
• Collaborate with meteorologists, risk modelers, and software engineers.
