Job summary

Motional in Boston/Pittsburgh/Las Vegas or remote within the U.S. seeks a Senior Data Scientist for Systems Performance. You will design evaluation frameworks for autonomous systems, work with Safety and Systems Engineering, and ensure metrics support safety cases and launch readiness.

You will develop new metrics and ML methods, analyze AV performance data, and mentor engineers to foster a data-driven culture across teams. Hybrid options available.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience with large datasets and data-driven analyses.
• Bachelor's or higher in a quantitative field; advanced degrees preferred.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with data analysis libraries.
• Experience applying statistical/ML methods to large data sets.
• Ability to work independently and communicate findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of evaluation frameworks for autonomous systems with data-driven approaches.
• Collaborate with Safety and Systems Engineering to map metrics to safety standards.
• Ensure evaluation metrics are reliable for safety cases and launch decisions.
• Monitor metric drift and data quality across time; drive improvements.
• Develop new metrics and apply ML methods to analyze AV performance data.
• Mentor engineers and promote data-informed decision making.
