Job summary

The State of Maryland seeks a GMI Data Scientist appointed by the Governor to build scalable data pipelines and analytical models supporting the Government Modernization Initiative (GMI) within GOPI. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and data engineering skills and experience in an agile government setting.

This role focuses on extracting, managing, and analyzing data to modernize state operations, save taxpayer dollars, and improve service delivery across Maryland state government by

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
• At least 2 years in Data Engineer/Data Scientist roles, preferably public sector.
• Hands-on ML model deployment in production and LLM/AI solutions.
• Fluency in Python and/or R for data analysis and modeling.
• Experience with MCP servers for AI tool/data integration.
• Strong ability to communicate and synthesize complex concepts.

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable data pipelines and analytical models for GMI projects.
• Analyze data to support modernization initiatives and policy decisions.
• Collaborate with department leadership to leverage existing data assets.
• Build, deploy, and maintain machine learning models and AI solutions.
