Senior Data Scientist — Credit Risk Strategy

Job summary

Chime is seeking an experienced Credit Risk Data Scientist to lead the credit strategy for new-to-Chime applicants, including Instant Loans for newcomers and future unsecured products.

You will build risk policies, leverage Experian and internal data, and collaborate with product, DSML, data engineering, and analytics teams to monitor risk and optimize approvals, losses, and life-cycle metrics.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a quantitative field; PhD preferred or plus.
• 7+ years in analytics or data science in financial services/FinTech.
• 4+ years building risk for unsecured credit products.
• Experience with credit bureau data and prescreen/pre-approval programs.
• Knowledge of consumer lending regulation (FCRA, ECOA/Reg B, fair lending).
• Strong SQL and Python, plus BI tooling experience.
• Experience with scorecards, vintage analysis, and experiment design.
• Excellent communication and ability to explain trade-offs to executives.

Responsibilities

• Own credit strategy for new-to-Chime applicants across the lifecycle.
• Develop and evolve channel-specific credit policies (pre-approval, direct mail, referrals).
• Design acquisition, loan amount/line assignment, pricing, and collections strategies.
• Leverage bureau and internal data to underwrite with no prior Chime relationship.
• Lead test-and-learn and quantify trade-offs among approvals, losses, LTV.
• Collaborate with Finance/Strategy to size channels and forecast unit economics.
• Partner with data teams to build data infrastructure and dashboards.
• Work with DSML, Product, Design, Engineering to productionize risk models.
• Document and govern policies with Compliance, Legal, Fair Lending, MR; mentor team.
