Job summary

National Grid is seeking a Senior Data Engineering Manager to lead the design and delivery of scalable data solutions in a large enterprise. This role oversees multiple engineering teams, ensuring governance, data quality, and effective collaboration with business stakeholders.

The position supports major IT initiatives, including building a data platform for growth and customer service improvements. Hybrid work options in the NY/MA region are available.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in database development: Snowflake (preferred), SQL Server, Oracle, etc.
• 5 years’ experience in supervisory roles leading engineers/SW developers
• Experience in a dynamic work environment
• Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, departments, and customers
• Strong communication skills, written and oral
• Experience with MS Azure
• Experience with cloud data architecture
• Experience with Snowflake is a plus
• Experience with ETL methods, system integration techniques
• Experience with Reporting environments (Power BI preferred)
• Experience with data governance programs
• Experience with budgeting
• Experience with Agile/Lean software development process and practice is a plus
• Experience with SaaS solutions such as Salesforce, ESRI and Workforce is a plus

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight of system designs and data solution development including data migration and extracts.
• Lead multiple engineering teams responsible for implementation of a strategic data platform.
• Ensure updates to Jira boards, system documentation, data catalogs and governance platform.
• Participate in design and pre-deployment reviews (governance).
• Oversee BAU and system-conversion initiatives
• Participate in annual budget, business case, and quarterly planning
• Promote cross-application data standards and data-driven design
• Monitor deliverables for quality and traceability to requirements
• Coordinate cross-area issues and ensure integrated solutions
• Support go-live activities and post-go-live care
• Contribute to data management maturity assessments
• Coordinate audit artifacts and responses
• Seek continuous process improvements in data-related disciplines
