Job summary

AppFolio is seeking a seasoned Data Engineer to own the operational backbone of our Business Data Platform. You’ll lead secure data initiatives, implement RBAC and masking, and ensure scalable analytics delivery.

You will design and maintain observability, CI/CD pipelines, and data access controls, collaborating with cybersecurity and compliance teams to uphold governance across data domains.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in DataOps, Data Platform Engineering, DevOps or related roles.
• Proficiency with SQL, Python, Airflow, dbt.
• Experience with AWS and container tech (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Experience with Snowflake data warehouse and governance.
• Advanced Airflow skills and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform) and IAM/audit logging.
• Experience building self‑serve data pipelines.
• Familiarity with data security, masking, and audit requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own design, build, and maintain observability and testing for the Business Data Platform.
• Own CI/CD architecture for Github repos, automated checks, and deployment pipelines.
• Manage service accounts, roles, and permissions across Snowflake, dbt, and BI tools.
• Define and enforce data access controls, masking policies, and encryption standards.
• Partner with InfoSec and Compliance to ensure auditability and privacy across the platform.
• Drive automation of environment provisioning and credential rotation.
• Collaborate with data engineers, scientists, and analysts to improve self‑service capabilities.
