Job summary

AppFolio is seeking a senior Data Engineer for the Business Data Platform to own observability, testing, and CI/CD across our data infrastructure. You will manage access controls, data masking, and governance as we mature a secure, scalable platform powering analytics and AI-driven decisions.

You will collaborate with InfoSec, Compliance, and cross-functional data teams to ensure auditability, metadata lineage, and robust automation across Snowflake, dbt, and AWS-based data flows.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in DataOps, Data Platform Engineering, DevOps, or related roles in modern cloud data environments.
• Proficiency with SQL, Python, Airflow, dbt, and Linux scripting.
• Strong experience with AWS tech (S3, EC2, EKS), Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Snowflake data warehouse, security and governance.
• Advanced Airflow expertise.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
• Experience building self-service data processes.
• Familiarity with IAM, encryption, and audit logging.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, build, and maintenance of observability and testing for the Business Data Platform.
• Own the CI/CD architecture for GitHub repositories and deployment pipelines.
• Manage service accounts, roles, and permissions across Snowflake, dbt, and BI tools.
• Define and maintain Data Pipeline SLOs and data access controls.
• Enforce encryption, masking policies, and least-privilege access with audit logging.
• Define access governance for AI-driven data consumption with Snowflake Coco and related tools.
• Partner with InfoSec and Compliance to ensure auditability and privacy.
• Maintain lineage and metadata across key data domains.
• Implement IaC for data platform components and automate routine ops.
• Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts for self-service usability.
