Abbott Laboratories seeks a Senior Database Engineer II to design and maintain scalable data pipelines, orchestrate cloud-based data platforms, and guide cross-functional teams on data solutions within the Infectious Disease division. This on-site role is based in San Diego, CA and collaborates with global teams to deliver reliable analytics capabilities.

The position requires 7+ years in software development with database design, strong Python/SQL skills, and experience with Azure Data Factory,

Qualifications

• 7+ years in software development with database design.
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience delivering products for the Medical Device industry.
• Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse, MongoDB, Databricks.
• Developing using Python and T-SQL.
• Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL.
• Hands-on data pipelines across large scale systems.
• Production delivery experience in Cloud PaaS related technologies (Azure).
• Knowledge of disaster recovery and geo-redundancy strategies.
• Understanding of SOX, PCI, HIPAA, and data protection requirements.
• Healthcare industry experience is a plus.

• Lead design and implementation of modern data platforms and analytics solutions.
• Provide technical leadership for SIT/UIT and enterprise IT testing.
• Design multi-tenant databases and sharding strategies for performance.
• Promote data engineering standards and governance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver reliable data solutions.
• Mentor teammates on data engineering best practices.
• Support V&V teams and participate in Agile ceremonies.
