Job summary

Abbott Laboratories is recruiting a Senior Database Engineer II for on-site work at the Towne Centre site in San Diego, CA. You will build scalable data pipelines, lead platform choices, and shape data models across cloud environments.

You will collaborate with dispersed teams, drive governance and testing processes, and mentor peers in modern data engineering practices while advancing healthcare data solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering products for medical devices or healthcare.
• 7+ years in software development with database design.
• Strong background in cloud data platforms and data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory.
• Lead design and implementation of Databricks, Azure OneLake, Synapse, Snowflake.
• Design data models (conceptual, logical, physical) for cloud environments.
• Provide SIT/UIT leadership and testing support for enterprise IT systems.
• Design multi-tenant databases and sharding strategies for scale.
• Promote data engineering standards, governance, and best practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and educate teams on data engineering concepts.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and drive process improvements.
