Job summary

ARUP Laboratories, based in Salt Lake City, UT, seeks a Sr. Analytics Engineer to transform clinical and operational data into scalable data products. You will partner with IT staff, Medical Directors, and Lab Managers to refine models for modern analytics tooling.

The role emphasizes data pipeline design, query optimization across data lake/warehouse, and ontology modernization for Laboratory Operations, Revenue Cycle, Genomics, and Quality Control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Advanced degrees or specialized certifications.
• Expert SQL & Modeling: mastery of complex SQL and deep experience with modern transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt).
• Cloud Infrastructure: hands-on experience designing data infrastructure in a major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Programming Proficiency: Python or R for data manipulation, automation, and API integrations.

Responsibilities

• Apply software engineering best practices to the data transformation layer using dbt.
• Architect and optimize the query layer for performant analytics across data lake and warehouse with Athena, Redshift, or BigQuery.
• Own ingestion and orchestration frameworks stitching disparate clinical data sources (Glue, Airflow, Dagster).
• Lead modernization of ARUP’s data ontology for Laboratory Operations, Revenue Cycle, Genomics, and Quality Control.
• Contribute to the long-term technical roadmap for the data platform and scalable cloud storage/compute.
• Collaborate with leadership to collect requirements and code STATE data products.
• Other duties as assigned
