Job summary

HARMAN Automotive seeks a Principal Data Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex data products on the enterprise data platform. You will guide teams, define scalable pipelines, and ensure data quality, governance, and security across cross-domain projects.

You’ll partner with architects, security, analytics, and domain teams, mentoring engineers while remaining hands-on and driving reusable patterns and best practices. A hybrid Novi, MI role offers collaboration across global teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, data architecture, data platforms, or related technical roles.
• Producing production data solutions with Python, SQL, Spark/PySpark and distributed data processing tech.
• Experience with Azure Databricks or comparable enterprise lakehouse platform.
• Understanding of lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, data modeling, batch/streaming, orchestration, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Leading the technical delivery of complex data engineering initiatives across multiple systems or teams.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git, automated testing, deployment automation, and data engineering practices.
• Strong focus on performance, production support, observability, resiliency, and data pipeline reliability.
• Knowledge of data governance, security, access management, metadata, lineage, and data quality.
• Ability to influence technical decisions, mentor engineers, and communicate complex concepts to technical/business stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex data products using Azure Databricks and the enterprise data platform.
• Design scalable data pipelines, data models, and integration patterns for high-value use cases.
• Resolve engineering, performance, data quality, and integration challenges.
• Guide engineers on CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment automation.
• Create reusable data engineering patterns and golden paths with Platform Engineering.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other Data Engineers while staying hands-on.
• Collaborate with architects, security, analytics, and domain teams to meet enterprise standards.
• Define data contracts, quality controls, lineage, metadata, and security in data products.
• Engage with source-system teams to resolve data dependencies and interoperability issues.
• Evaluate new Databricks capabilities and propose improvements for delivery and cost.
• Support domain teams to mature and operate within enterprise guardrails.
• Contribute to planning and estimation for major data-product initiatives
