Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin, Inc. is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to lead the design of a modern data platform, including lakehouse architectures, AI/ML patterns, and governance across data, analytics, and research workloads.

You will drive target-state architectures, mentor a skilled team, and partner with vendors to ensure security, privacy, and regulatory compliance for clinical research data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years in data engineering, software/data architecture, or related discipline, including 3+ years in a solutions/enterprise architect role.
• Master’s degree preferred in related field. Certifications in AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, or DAMA CDMP are advantageous.
• Strong SQL and Python skills; experience with data governance, privacy, and regulatory considerations (PHI/HIPAA).
• Experience mentoring engineers and analysts; ability to collaborate across IT, analytics, and security teams.

Responsibilities

• Define target-state reference architecture for modernized data estate (lakehouse, data products, semantic models).
• Design cloud architecture with cost, performance, security, and operational simplicity in mind.
• Lead lakehouse migration from SQL-based data warehouse; govern ingestion, ELT/streaming pipelines, storage formats, and cost optimization.
• Establish guardrails for agentic AI/ML, including governance, telemetry, and model monitoring.
• Partner with cybersecurity and data governance teams to ensure HIPAA/PHI handling and compliant data-use agreements.
